Power Rankings: Welterweight
As much as I'd like to sit here and bitch about Alves not making weight, his dismantling of Hughes is much more important.
I'm not usually one to care much about rankings and all, but Alves did an excellent job of making one of the most dominate WWs in UFC history look like an amateur. Even with the weight BS, Alves made it look like Hughes didn't even belong in the Octagon with him. That says a lot about him, the same way it did for GSP and Anderson Silva demolishing the belt holders in their division.
So, where does this leave Alves (currently #10 in the CP WW rankings)? I'm not about to say he's to jump up to the top of the list, but he was as dominate over Hughes as GSP was in their last two bouts.
As for Hughes, is it even really worth looking into it that much? After his grudge match with Serra is over, I can see him looking to retire. He's got to realize at this point that he won't be holding the WW title again unless GSP gets "Mat Herpes" or something.
Also, with Jon Fitch set to fight GSP soon, we could see a lot of up and down sliding in this ranking. Thoughts?
