Random MMA Thoughts Thread

Thread for posts that don't really belong in a thread on its own, but you'd just like to express.



My random thought: man, Misaki vs Akiyama has got to be one of my favourite fights of all time.

Not just for the fight, but for the backstory, for the characters, for the intensity, for the emotions, for the drama... it's all there.

Akiyama: the Korean fighter, reviled in Japan, on his way to the top with the momentum of knocking out Kang. Bowed deeply along with his team, to this incredible chorus of boos from the Japanese crowd and came to the ring holding hands with Monma to the strains of Con Te Patiro.

Misaki: the Japanese fighter, some great wins, including over Dan Henderson and Kang, but inconsistent. Enormous cheers when he popped out of the entrance and started jumping around to the Mad Capsule Markets like a madman, and the Grabaka team followed like a gang wearing "G" uniforms, led by Gono in his pimp suit.

And then they fight. Akiyama in southpaw, standing stiff, but strong. Misaki with unorthodox standup, hopping around like a jackrabbit.

And there's the intensity of Korea vs Japan, with hints of a little bit of racism.

There's genuine passion. There's elements of controversy, there's incredible drama that goes on for months.

Absolutely incredible saga. I don't think that there will ever be one quite like it. In fact, I'm not sure if I even want a rematch despite the unfinished business because I want this moment to lie perfectly in MMA history... but as a fan, it has to be at the top of my list. I know that if they meet again, it will be just as exciting as it was before. Fantastic stuff.







On a more random note, this has to be one of the funniest troll posts I have ever seen.
